Henllys Issues

Tough decisions have had to be made in respect of fuel cost savings and the worst one has been the turning off of street lighting since it affects everyone in Torfaen.

On the surface it seems as if there are more lights on in some areas than others, but this is due to junction location, emergency route etc and there are no special exceptions….however I have to say that my street is still on…but this is due to being a specific route…and believe me I have tried to get some of the lights turned off for several reasons - one because I live there and don’t want to get lynched ! …and the other simply because when we had a fault and the light directly outside our bedroom window was out for two months, we had the best period of unbroken sleep for ages…

I have had many complaints in respect of the light issue and all on the surface justified - with some serious facts and considerations which have very valid points in terms of health and safety.

Some good ideas have been put forward by way of compromise which I am putting forward to the council on behalf of residents to possibly help with the situation.

The most popular being all lights illuminated until midnight, then off until 5.00 am….what do you think ?

Some queries have been in respect of more lights off than the 1 in 3 ratio - this is because there is possibly a fault on one of the light in between. (However only lights with a yellow sticker should be off - if one is not working and doesn’t have a yellow sticker, then report it to the council on 01495 762200, Operational Services Dept.

Another query is “why are there lights on during the day” - Lights are on a ring circuit and if there is a fault they can only be repaired during the day and need to warm up and be tested depending on the fault. Be assured that the council does not get charged for power usage when this happens.

If there are any other problems please let me know.
